BTN BikeShare today (6.3.18) releases its six-month user figures, which suggest it is the country’s best performing bike share scheme outside of London.
The award-winning scheme, sponsored by American Express and Life Natural Spring Water, has seen upwards of 22,000 users making 120,000 trips since it launched in September 2017. Together, Life Bike users have ridden a total of 225,000 miles, with the seafront proving the most popular cycle route.
Tim Caswell, owner of Hourbike, the company operating the scheme, said: “We couldn’t be happier that, in just half a year, the Life Bikes have become a real staple for Brighton & Hove residents and visitors.
“After introducing new docking stations and improving bike distribution last month, we’re currently developing further plans to expand the scheme and make the Brighton & Hove cycling experience even better!”
Chair of the Council’s Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee, Cllr Gill Mitchell, added: “It’s great that so people are using the bike share scheme to get around the city. Cycling has become a popular mode of transport in Brighton & Hove. It’s often the quickest way of getting from A to B and a good way to sightsee. Being able to pick up and drop off bikes through the scheme is making it an even more attractive way to travel.”
Louis Kirby, 27-year-old engagement worker at Justlife said:
“Over the past 10 years I’ve seen lots of changes and improvements to Brighton & Hove, but the BTN BikeShare, for me, is by far the best. My job means I’m out and about a lot, often needing to get from one end of the city to the other. The Life Bikes are so convenient, they have made travelling around much easier, quicker and cheaper and I use the scheme almost every day.”
