Innovate UK & Prince's Trust Launch Young Innovators' Programme

A new nationwide initiative has been announced to find the next generation of young UK innovators and provide them with support, advice and funding to explore new ideas for enterprise.

Open to 18-30 year-olds who are looking to take their ideas to the next level, the Ideas Mean Business - Young Innovators' Programme will enable applicants to quickly receive advice, guidance and the chance to access transformative backing; helping to turn their ideas into reality.

The ‘Young Innovators’ programme of support includes regional ‘Innovation Live’ events across the UK and an award competition, with the following support package:
  • An allowance to cover living costs (similar to an apprenticeship).
  • 1:1 coaching and mentoring from an Innovation Champion.
  • A pot of funding to support specific requirements, eg travel to meet customers/partners, attending relevant training courses, equipment, hiring office space and IT support.

Those who do not win an award package will still have access to the Innovation Module and support offered by Enterprise Online.

Applicants need to register with The Prince’s Trust, where they will then be able to sign up to attend one of a series of regional events. These events will help young people to develop their ideas and give more information about the application process.
Applicants must attend an event in order to apply
.

There will be two batches of events: The first events are:
  • Cardiff, Wales, 5 February
  • Ipswich, East Anglia, 5 February
  • Birmingham, West Midlands, 6 February
  • Brighton, South East, 7 February
  • Plymouth, South West, 8 February

Those attending one of these events will need to submit an application by
1 March 2018
.

The second batch of events will be:
  • Newcastle, North East, 26 February
  • Belfast, Northern Ireland, 26 February
  • York, Yorkshire and the Humber, 27 February
  • Manchester, North West, 1 March
  • Glasgow, Scotland, 2 March
  • Nottingham, East Midlands, 2 March

Delegates to these events must apply by
22 March 2018
.

The best ideas will be announced in March 2018 and these future innovators will go on to receive funding and ongoing business mentorship.
