The Brighton Met [formerly City College] Construction & Trades Centre in Preston Road will be converted into 25 apartments.
The 1870s Victorian red-brick property is no longer required by the FE college because it has opened a new £9m state-of-the-art construction training centre at its east campus.
Developers Aligned Property bought the site in October last year and Brighton & Hove planning committee backed the proposal to convert the site into housing last week because the building had “passed its usefulness” as an educational centre.
The new scheme involves a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments, 40% of which will be affordable and the scheme will also bring more than £130,000 of improvements to nearby open spaces, schools and indoor sport facilities.
