2014 sees a dramatic fall in the number of shops on the High Street
Between January and September town and city centres across the UK saw 964 net closures, well over double the net reduction for the whole of last year.
According to the study of 500 towns and cities by PwC and the Local Data Company clothing shops were among the hardest hit but the collapse of businesses such as Phones 4U, Albermarle & Bond and La Senza also accelerated the decline.
Betting shops continue to thrive together with coffee shops, banks, pound shops, charity shops, convenience stores and American restaurants.
