Presenting organisations will include Care Co-Ops, The Big Lemon, Engage & Create, ParentSkool and Open Strings CIC.
There will be an opportunity to purchase goods and services from these businesses. Anyone interested in starting their own social enterprise will also have the opportunity to talk to experienced social entrepreneurs, and obtain advice and guidance on how to go about it.
Social Saturday is designed to boost the number of consumers buying from Britain’s 70,000 plus social enterprises, businesses with a social mission that reinvest their profits for good. Well known examples include The Big Issue, Jamie Oliver’s fifteen restaurant chain, Café Direct and Divine Chocolate. Well known social enterprises locally include The Big Lemon, hisBe, and the Wood Recycling Project.
Social enterprises are starting up all over Britain with 1 in 7 of all business start-ups being social enterprises.
Rachel Mortimer, Co-Founder of Engage and Create, and Brighton & Hove Social Enterprise Network steering group member, said,
"The newly-formed Brighton & Hove Social Enterprise Network were keen to take part in Social Saturday in order to showcase the breadth of opportunities to buy socially locally. It also gives us an opportunity to explain to the public more about how social enterprises work and why it’s a great way to do business."
