According to a new report commissioned by the University of Sussex, the institution will generate £1bn direct and indirect spending and support 2,200 jobs in the local economy by 2018.
A report produced by both universities two years ago estimated that they already jointly contribute £1bn to the economy [£600m from Sussex] and the new figures reflect the ambitious expansion plans of the Falmer based university.
While 2,200 of the university’s employees live in the immediate city region, the total jobs supported amounts to 3,700.
Sussex currently has nearly 14,000 students over 70% of whom live in the area and nearly 3,500 remaining in the area after graduation helping to make up the fourth best qualified workforce in the UK.
