An application to Arts Council England for £925,000 towards developing The Dance Space in Circus Street has been successful which will help to create an internationally recognised centre for choreographic research, creation and engagement in Brighton.
The Dance Space, due to open in 2017, will be a home for dance, connecting professional artists to local communities. It is a major element of the proposed Circus Street regeneration project. The redevelopment is led by Cathedral PLC and McLaren, working in partnership with South East Dance, University of Brighton and Brighton & Hove City Council.
A planning decision on the full development is expected in spring. Having secured £2.92million, including Arts Council England's investment, South East Dance will soon be launching a campaign to raise the remaining £800,000 needed to ensure The Dance Space meets its very highest expectations as the UK's first ever live/work home dedicated to dance.
