Pickles tell councils to abandon 'anti-car dogma'
The secretary of state for communities and local government says that councils should provide more parking spaces in town centres and ensure parking charges do not "undermine" local economies.
Eric Pickles has lambasted "draconian" parking policies and "over-zealous traffic wardens" which he blames for driving motorists onto the internet to do their shopping or to out-of-town retail parks.
Guidance, which is due to be published later this week, says that parking charges should be appropriate and not undermine the vitality of town centres and local shops, and parking enforcement should be proportionate.
