A report going to the July Policy & Resources Committee [P&R] is recommending that the City Council continue to pursue development of the site with the University of Brighton in preference to a private developer offering to purchase the entire site.
A masterplan for the site on Lewes Road completed in December 2012 in conjunction with the University proposed;
New 8,000 sq.m Business School
750 student accommodation units
10,600 sq.m of office space
High quality public open spaces
But Dunsfold Group, the developers behind the giant City Park office complex on the site of the old Alliance & Leicester HQ overlooking Hove Park, had also offered to purchase the entire site for a 17,000 sq.m zero-carbon office block for a pre-let tenant and 100 homes.
The report going to P&R recommends continuing to work with the University of Brighton on the development of the site albeit the details may change from the proposals in the 2012 masterplan listed above.
