Roger French granted Freedom of the City
In honour of his outstanding contribution to the city over a 25 year period, the recently retired MD of Brighton & Hove Bus Company was made a Freeman of the City at a ceremony held in Brighton Town Hall on Thursday.
He is only the sixth person to be granted the honour after Adam Trimmingham, Henry Allingham, Aug San Suu Kyi, Marc Heal and Steve Ovett.
Roger French was a founder member of the Brighton & Hove Business Forum in 1998, which he chaired, and the Economic Partnership in 2001. He also chaired the city’s Strategic Partnership for seven years and was the Chair of Trustees at the Martlets Hospice. He received an OBE in 2005 for his services to transport and became a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex in 2007.
