Reflecting the growing importance of public transport to the city’s economy a revolutionary new travel shop opened its doors on Friday in North Street and has already been swamped with customers.
In a city where car use is well below the national average [see earlier story] the relocation of the 1 Stop Travel shop to a more prominent location on the high street is a significant move. It is operated by Brighton & Hove Bus Company which has more than doubled bus passenger use over the past decade but the shop isn't just about travelling by bus.
The shop is unique in offering an integrated sales and information service for all modes of land-based public transport including local buses, coaches and all train companies.
Roger French, MD of Brighton & Hove Buses explained, “We’re delighted to have opened this new much larger branch of our popular travel shop”. Uniquely, we offer impartial travel advice and can find and sell the best value tickets for any journey in Great Britain whether by train, coach or bus”.
1 Stop Travel previously traded at the western end of St James’s Street for many years as well as at Brighton Station but it became clear some time ago that demand for its services was outstripping the space devoted to providing them, the demand for the new Key Smartcard exacerbated the problem. The new double shop front right in the heart of the city centre in North Street offers a brighter, bigger retail experience.
The new shop has eleven counter positions and plans to expand further in the new year with the installation of self-service ticket machines for trains, coaches and the new key smartcard system.
