Hotel du Vin to be sold after company collapse
Both Malmaison and the Hotel Du Vin chains are to be put up for sale following the collapse of parent company MWB Group Holdings. Brighton’s Hotel du Vin in Ship Street has consistently been voted one of the best hotels in the city.
The parent company for the hotel chains disputes an £8m debt to its subsidiary, the office space provider MWB Business Exchange. Unable to resolve the dispute the company's bank has appointed receivers Deloitte to administer the company and sell the 26 hotels trading under the two brands.
The dispute over £8m is the tip of the iceberg; MWB Group Holdings has accumulated debts of £200m.
The Chief Executive of Malmaison and Hotel du Vin issued a statement saying that the collapse of the parent company would not interrupt “business as usual” for the hotels in the two chains.
