All-female line up for new Chief Executive
Although the Council is being tight-lipped, the Argus has revealed that four candidates have been short-listed for the post of Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove following the departure of John Barradell.
In its Saturday edition The Argus named
- Penny Thompson; former CEO at Hackney Borough Council and currently CEO of the General Social Care Council. Until 2010, she was also co-director of Peynser Thompson Ltd; a leadership consultancy undertaking diverse assignments for local authorities, Ofsted, other non departmental bodies and the NHS. These included: reviews of organisational capability; specific inquiries and investigations; coaching; facilitation; executive recruitment, and interim management.
- Gill Steward; corporate director for communities at Cornwall County Council. Before that she was the director of customer and corporate services at the London Borough of Hackney and the director of corporate services and resources at Bracknell Forest Borough Council.
- Lyn Carpenter; Director of environment, leisure & residents’ services at Hammersmith & Fulham Borough Council and Kensington & Chelsea Borough Council [two boroughs sharing the same executive director]. Her current role also includes responsibility for transformation, procurement and commercialisation/business development.
- Nicola Yates OBE; former CEO of Hull City Council until July.
The current Chief Executive of Lewes District Council - Jenny Rowlands - who has extensive knowledge of the city from her time as Director of Environment and was considered a strong candidate by many, does not appear to have been short listed.
