The city council is seeking a leaseholder for a three year term to take over Black Rock while the city decides what to do with it after the demise of plans for the Brighton International Ice Arena.
The site is 6,700 square metres and is situated to the west of Brighton Marina right on the seafront. The council would like to see “innovative and creative proposals based on a mix of retail art and leisure uses” particularly if they include working with local organisations to develop arts and gallery usage.
The previous Conservative administration had it earmarked as a temporary coach park but the Green administration abandoned the plan upon taking office.
Black Rock has been used in the past for a variety of temporary uses including an exhibition of sand sculptures and an outdoor venue for Brighton Festival events.
