City College Brighton and Hove recently linked up with Legal & General and UNITE trade union to provide staff with free taster sessions in such skills as photography and digital design at the Legal & General offices in Hove.
The sessions were initiated by the UNITE union and were aimed at promoting well-being and the importance of lifelong learning amongst Legal & General staff.
City College’s Director of Commercial and Enterprise, Itziar Leighton said, “The Legal & General staff I met really seemed to enjoy trying a new skill during their working day and I was really impressed with the quality of the work they produced in a relatively short period of time".
“We’d be delighted to hear from other local businesses who’d like to offer similar taster sessions for their staff. This is a really enjoyable and engaging way for the College to showcase the range of learning opportunities we offer to adults while also building links with the local community.”
Tina Wells, UNITE’s Learning Representative in Hove said, “Organising a learning event in the workplace for Legal & General employees provided our members with ideas for future life long learning opportunities”.
“Our members were advised of available courses as well as being afforded the opportunity to attend ‘bite size' sessions giving them an valuable insight of what’s on offer at City College. The event was a success and feedback has been extremely positive. We look forward to working with City College in the future.”
