Portas' Town Team winners announced
Housing Minister Grant Shapps has announced the twelve towns selected to be the first Portas Pilots each receiving £100,000 of regeneration money for their town centres.
Grant Shapps praised ‘the exceptional quality of the winning bids’ and announced that he was so impressed with the 371 applications that he announced a second round of Portas Pilots, for 15 more town centres with a deadline of 30th June for applications. Each town will receive the grant funding and the help of Mary Portas, the television presenter and recently appointed government advisor, to try to liven up derelict shops, start new markets and advertise shopping areas. The pilots will also form part of a television series, fronted by Ms Portas. The twelve town centres are listed below; - Bedford

- Dartford
- Bedminster
- Liskeard
- Margate
- Market Rasen
- Nelson
- Newbiggin by the Sea
- Stockport
- Stockton on Tees
