Award-winning Legal Exec welcomes College’s new course

City College Brighton and Hove has launched a new course - Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) qualifications - that enable successful students to become fully qualified lawyers without going to University

The part-time courses, starting in September, are ideal for those working currently in junior Paralegal or Legal Support roles. The launch has been warmly welcomed by Chartered Legal Executive Philip Warford, Managing Director of Renaissance Legal in Brighton and winner of the Law Society Excellence Award for Legal Executive of the Year 2011.

“In terms of helping us acquire a skilled workforce in the local legal profession, it’s fantastic that City College has started delivering these courses”, said Philip. “When I was 18, enrolling on a CILEx course gave me the opportunity to live at home, earn a living and learn about the law while working in a solicitor’s office environment and studying part-time at College. Back then, I didn’t really want to move away from home to do a degree and this enabled me to qualify.”

“Being able to offer these courses is a real boost to Business Professional Studies at City College”, says Team Leader Dawn Howard. “It really helps us emphasise how the College can provide professional qualifications that are highly valued by employers.”

The courses City College are offering starting in September are CILEx Certificate in Legal Studies Level 2 and CILEx Certificate in Law & Practice Level 3 and the College is holding a series of Open Evenings at its Central Campus on Pelham Street specifically aimed at those interested in the College’s Business Professional qualifications including Accounting, Bookkeeping, Computerised Accounts, Team Leader and HR qualifications. At the events, staff will be able to provide course information, interviews and enrolment all in one night. The dates are:

  • Thursday 14th June
  • Monday 9th July
  • Monday 3rd September

All of the Business & Professional Open Evenings will be held at the College’s Central Campus on Pelham Street, Brighton from 5pm to 7pm.

For information on CILEX courses at City College, call Dawn Howard on 01273 667788 x 471 or email DH1@ccb.ac.uk
