A careers fair held at City College's Central Campus in Pelham Street on Wednesday was attended by close to a thousand students and local residents looking to improve their career prospects.
Delegates were able to meet some 30 locally based businesses who provided an insight into the opportunities and skills required for employment within their organisations.
In addition to networking opportunities, job seekers were given hands-on advice by local jobs board BrightonandHoveJobs.com about writing CVs and applying for jobs, while prospective students were given guidance by the City College team about choosing and enrolling on courses.
Charlene Rudd from BrightonandHoveJobs was one of the event’s organisers. She said: “Despite the challenging economy Brighton & Hove businesses are being proactive about supporting local job seekers by offering work experience, apprenticeships and advice. Events such as this one provide invaluable opportunities for job seekers to meet potential employers face to face thus giving them a better understanding of what skills they need to develop and subsequently demonstrate on job applications and in interviews.”
Elizabeth Pizzey, the college’s Careers & Progression Officer, said: "All the staff at City College involved in this event were delighted at how well it went. It was a fantastic networking opportunity for employers, job-seekers and students and we had so many visitors comment on what a friendly, welcoming atmosphere there was so it was also a great way of showcasing everything City College is about."
City College is currently recruiting for courses starting in September. For more information call 01273 667759, email info@ccb.ac.uk or see www.ccb.ac.uk
