Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce held their State of the City debate on 21st June and have been looking at some of the feedback from the meeting to identify follow up actions.
The Chamber has identified a clear mandate for a Park and Ride in the city, so they will be supporting that and pushing for it to finally happen to relieve congestion in the city centre.
They are also in discussions with BrightonandHoveJobs.com about working together to provide a one-stop shop for apprenticeships, internships and work experience and intend to put this firmly on the agenda with the Council as something they should be supporting and helping to make happen.
The Chamber also wants to help ease the problem of a lack of office space in the city through promoting sharing space and co-location. Some businesses are already doing this and the Chamber is keen to investigate how they could make this happen for more Chamber members.
They also conclude from State of the City debate that land use is a big issue for the future of the city and consequently want to work with the Council on updating the Economic Strategy to make sure it balances the needs of business for office and retail space with the need for housing, recreation and other uses.
