Only 40 new homes predicted for the city in 2010
The city council is predicting that only 40 new homes will be built in the city in 2010. Over the past decade the average rate of house building has been about 525 homes per annum.
In 2009 the Council had anticipated that 580 homes would be built but only 160 were delivered. The local authority’s last housing needs survey conducted in 2005 identified a need for 2,500 affordable homes per annum with a shortfall of 1202.
The city council has just granted planning consent for 130 new homes on the old Caffyns Garage site in hove [see earlier story].
