A community event will be taking place on Brighton seafront to raise awareness of the impact that drugs and alcohol can have on peoples’ lives. There is an opportunity for businesses to raise their profile by sponsoring the event.
Clued Up Brighton will be held on Sunday 1st August on the beachfront by the West Pier. There is no admission charge and the event will run between 2pm and 10pm.
The event is a fun day out for young people and teenagers to come and enjoy live bands on the stage, comedians, magicians, stilt walkers, jugglers, and other acts from Brighton & Hove, while at the same time gaining knowledge of how drugs and alcohol could impact on their lives.
The main screen will show short films from local people sharing their personal stories and local charities and support groups will be providing information about their services. This is very much a community event by local people for local people.
The idea for the event came from Anna Bryman who has suffered the knock on effects of living with drug and alcohol abuse.
Anna, in conjunction with local poet Neil Sykes, has written some lyrics for a song to support the cause and invites all young song writers in the local community to write a melody for the lyrics. There are 3 age categories and the winner of each category will have their song recorded professionally at Warner Music Studios, be invited to play their song live on stage on the day, and have their track played across Brighton & Hove on Juice 107.2. Entries are via the website: www.cluedupbrighton.org.
