Local group compARTment have secured temporary use of two stalls at Brighton’s Open Market from early July, until the major re-development starts in 2011. Now they want people to get involved.
This is a pilot project transforming unused city space for creative and community regenerative purposes and to put some new life into the existing market space. It will also boost the income of the existing stallholders.
compARTment needs people with ideas for utilising the 2 stalls (which are garage size indoor spaces), as well as ideas that spill into the open market public areas (roaming dance/theatre/performance etc). Proposals for anything from art projects and performances to volunteering and community projects would be welcomed.
Ideally proposed activities should be responsive and supportive of the market and the surrounding community, but all ideas will be considered.
Charges for utilising the space will be kept as low as possible but expenses (rent, utilities, business rates etc) need to be covered. Charges will be negotiated on a case by case basis with each applicant.
Volunteers are also neded who are keen to get on board with compARTment.
Visit the compARTment website for more details.
