National newspaper hails Brighton as “Britain's San Francisco”
On the day that the city’s refreshed Community Strategy was launched, the Guardian’s Alexis Petridis has hailed Brighton & Hove as “Britain’s hippest city” in the G2 section of today’s newspaper comparing it to San Francisco and lauding its tolerance and willingness to accept all comers.
The three page cover story, which is also promoted on the front page of the daily broadsheet above the masthead, cites tolerance as being one of the city’s greatest assets together with an incomparable physical setting between the Downs and the sea.
It highlights some of the quirkier aspects of the city’s retail offer picking shops from the North Laine and a wide range of restaurants. It also quotes a number of residents including Simon Fanshawe, the Chair of the Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership and local crime writer Peter James.
