The businesses in the key trading areas of Brighton and Hove have come together to organise a grand festival of shopping.
It's been a long cold winter and Brighton & Hove retailers are not prepared to be beaten down by it. So they are preparing to take the spring by storm.
Easter falls at the beginning of April and will hopefully mark a change in the weather. It is the perfect time to get everyone back into the important business of shopping.
Says city centre manager, Soozie Campbell, “Retailers in Brighton have suffered more from bad weather than from recession but both have combined to make it a very difficult winter and everyone needs something to raise their spirits. The great thing about Brighton businesses and the people of Brighton generally is that they don't stay down for long. And our response to one bad season is to take the next one by the horns and shake every ounce of pleasure from it.
“So we are planning a Great Big Brighton Shopping Festival for the entire month of April.”
The activities lined up include on street stunts and a little bit of street theatre. The streets will be decorated with bunting and the there will be a giant Easter Egg Hunt for the children. Some thirty odd Easter Eggs will be hidden in the roof tops and fascias of the shops for people to find using cryptic clues.
Facelift hire company has stepped in to help with this part of the promotions and will use their long arm cherry pickers to reach up into the rafters to hide the eggs.
The Festival will stretch from Churchill Square through North Street and the Lanes and North Laine right out to the Marina in the east of the city and Hove in the west.
There will be terrific prizes for the people who can find all of the eggs and complete a tie-breaker caption. For more information see www.uniquebrighton.com.
