Culture is one of the driving forces of Brighton & Hove and has been for hundreds of years - it is the city’s past and its present; the draft Cultural Strategy aims to set out what culture will mean to its future.
The cultural sector has a direct link with the success of the economy. In the current economic climate, it is even more important to use all the assets this city has in helping to stabilise the economy and build for the future – to be ready for the upturn.
The role of culture is also about innovation and invention in the chain of production, it is about broadening horizons and changing lives – it is all the things that we have need of now and will continue to have need of as we face a challenging future.
The draft strategy provides an overarching umbrella for the cultural services and initiatives in the council and beyond. It also aims to provide opportunities for partners across the city to link to, creating a framework for them to join with us in presenting the wealth of cultural opportunity we have to offer and stretch to meet the challenges.
The city council would be pleased to hear views from all quarters. They would also like to hear of any examples of activities that you think would make interesting case studies under the themes that we could include.
