This year is the 350th anniversary of the Royal Society - known originally as The Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge. Brighton celebrates with its own Science Festival in February, and demonstrates that science not only feeds our businesses, but also gives insights into business practice.
On our Events Listing (click on Events at the top of this Homepage) you will find details of an inspirational breakfast, organised by the Science Festival and sponsored by Sussex Enterprise and The Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce. The event, entitled “The Science of Persuasion” will be held on 12 Feburary, and guest speaker Steve Martin will demonstrate how you can influence people's decision-making.
A second breakfast will be held in Crawley on 23 February, when Professor Jonathan Bacon will provide evidence that managers are perhaps not as vital as they think!
The Festival not only appeals to the business sector, but also provides Family Fun Days on 13-14th February (the first weekend of the half-term holiday) with a whole diary of fun events. To describe the content of the Big Science Weekend at the end of the month (27-28th February) the Festival organisers say: “ We do the same again, but without the kids! Here you can find out the incredible story of life on earth, laid out in a single incredible day entitled Life, the Universe and Everything".
