Driving a vehicle on company business – are you up to speed?

Almost 30% of those killed or seriously injured on the roads in Sussex are effectively "at work" at the time of their crash. Those driving for work face a much greater risk on the roads than those just commuting or driving for pleasure. Every business needs to know about changes in the law surrounding driving on business.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch – but there are free ‘Lunch and Learn’ workshops operated by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, helping companies across the county get up to speed with the changes in the law regarding driving at work.

The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership are now offering companies FREE ‘Lunch and Learn’ fully interactive, enjoyable, and informative road safety workshops for up to 12 employees.

There are two separate workshops available each lasting one hour, ideal for a midweek lunch time session as refreshments are encouraged.

Presentation one is based around:

  • Road Crash statistics- what is the cost in terms of human life and money of road crashes
  • Your Vehicle - what are the latest technical advances in vehicle safety
  • Driver Stress - what effect does stress have on our ability to drive safely
  • Driver Attitude - how does our attitude affect our day-to-day driving and what can we do about it
  • And a quick driver survey - who or what gets you annoyed while behind the wheel

Presentation two focuses on:

  • Speed - why do we speed and what are the consequences
  • COAST - coping strategy, a way of helping to keep all of us safer
  • The two second rule - what is it and why is it so important
  • Crash analysis - a chance to look at different road crashes and ask why they happened.

Each seminar is presented by an experienced Road Safety or Roads Policing officer, with plenty of opportunities to ask that question you have always wanted to have answered regarding driving or road safety.

Company managers, directors and fleet managers are encouraged to take part, as are those who drive for work purposes. This may be just the right time to review your occupational road risk policies and get the right advice.

To find out more or to arrange a ‘Lunch and Learn’ session in your office, contact Keith Baldock on 01273 292258.
