Electricity monitor

£500 to cut your energy bills

Government grants are available to small businesses to help them make energy saving. These energy savings will also help to cut costs so it is a win/win for SMEs.

The grant is intended for smaller scale improvements including, curtains to conserve heat in shops & warehouses, central heating boilers, glazing, lighting and such like.

The scheme is open to any business with premises that employs less than 250 people and has a combined energy spend of between £1,500 to £30K per annum.

Upon request the scheme sends a clip on energy meter (electicity) to use on loan for a few weeks and provides a walk around checklist to help discern wheresavings can be made. The meter can then be returned using an SAE provided or it can be purchased. It is not essential to use the meter to make a grant application.

Each busines then decides what to buy and funding of up to £500 is agreed. There is a pre approved list or other requests that will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

The pre approved list is mainly focussed on lighting and heating equipment and their controls and insulation. It is possible to buy equipment worth more than £500 and use the funding to contribute towards the total. The scheme does not specify the actual supplier, that is up to the business to decide.

When agreed with the scheme the equipment can be bought and installed and the money claimed back. The process is designed to be simple and quick with limited form filling.
