Some of the lucky winners from 2008

Hove's Businesses Awarded for Excellent Service

The votes have been flooding in from the public and we can now announce the winners of the ‘At Your Service Awards 2009’. This celebration of excellent customer service in Hove highlights 14 businesses, as voted for by the public, as the best places in the west of the city for exceptional service.

This is the third year running for the popular competition and awards will be handed out at the southern end of George Street in Hove, on Friday 4th December at 10:30am.

The Best Female Business Personality was won this year by Karen Wells of Pet's Holiday Home and scooping the award for Male Business Personality for the second year running was Mark Necus from Klodhoppers in Blatchington Road. Also winning again are Fine Records in George Street, City Books in Western Road and Frinj Hairdressing in Portland Road.

Members of the public have been nominating their favourites, and it’s clear that Hove’s businesses have been offering consistently great service all year. Praise has been heaped on the ‘upbeat staff’ from Frinj hairdressing, and the ‘Brilliant service’ of Pets Holiday Home is also hard to ignore; the Bali Brasserie is apparently a ‘home from home’ and customers of Sally’s Hair and Beauty ‘Always leave the store feeling happy and laughing’. More often, people have been nominating their favourite businesses because they have them returning time and time again, for great service and for consistently raising the standards.

The ceremony will see awards handed out for:

  • Best Lifestyle Shop: Fine Records – George Street
  • Best Newcomer: The Book Nook - First Avenue
  • Best Specialist Business: Canhams Butchers - Church Road
  • Best Café Faigans: George Street
  • Best National Retailer: Sally Hair & Beauty, George Street
  • Best Shop in Portland Rd: Frinj Hairdressing
  • Best Shop in Church Road: The Chip Basket
  • Best Shop in Western Road: City Books
  • Most Popular Restaurant: Bali Brasserie - First Avenue
  • Best Shop in Boundary Road: Ingram & Schofield Opticians
  • Best Shop in Richardson Road: Vito’s Delicatessen
  • Best Pharmacy: Boot’s - Church Road
  • Male Business Personality: Mark Necus – Klodhoppers Blatchington Road
  • Female Business Personality: Karen Wells – Pets Holiday Home

The awards have been sponsored by the Hove Business Association and Hove Business Partnership with the generous support of the Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company.

There will be photo and filming opportunities for the media with all the winners at the event.
