Permission is expected to be granted next week for the first three electric charging points to be installed in the city by local company Elektromotive based in the Sussex Innovation Centre (SinC)at the University of Sussex.
The charging points will be installed in Bartholomews near Brighton Town Hall, The Level and Ditchling Road and locations for a further three sites are being considered.
The project is being funded with £130,000 of EU money.
Elektromotive recently won the contract to install 150 charging bays on the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology campus in Saudi Arabia. The deal underlines Britain’s leadership in the development of infrastructure technologies for electric vehicles. Elektromotive already exports to Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland and has 160 units currently in operation across the UK with plans to accelerate expansion of the Elektrobay charging network.
