The appointment of John Barradell as Brighton & Hove City Council’s new Chief Executive was ratified by the Full Council at a meeting on Thursday 13 August.
Mr Barradell, who joins from Westminster City Council, will start work at the council on 1 October (see earlier story about his appointment).
He has already planned a number of initiatives to familiarise himslef with the Council and the city. The Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership and the Business Forum will be asking for an early meeting to assist him with this process.
Mr Barradell has been Deputy Chief Executive at Westminster City Council since 2006, prior to a 22 year career in the private sector.
He said: "I'm excited about joining the council and enthused by the opportunity of working with our partners, staff and residents."
Council Leader Mary Mears said: "I'm delighted with the appointment, which was a unanimous decision from all the leaders and convenor of the parties. John is an excellent candidate and we are fortunate to have someone of such high calibre joining the council. I am looking forward to working with him."
