Signs of optimism in fashion retail
There may be a recession on but it hasn't staunched British fashion retailers' enthusiasm for the leading trade show. Fashion's flagship event, Pure London, saw an overall increase of 9% in popularity compared with last year.
The show which ran from Sunday 2nd to Tuesday 4th August recorded its best year ever and the Monday, which is traditionally the most popular day for serious buyers, saw an increase in attendance of 27%.
The mood among retailers and brands at the event was positive, with many saying that they were optimistic about the outlook for Spring/Summer 2010.
It is too early to say whether orders were up on last year but the number of buyers who returned to spend more than one day at Pure was up by 21%. This may be an indication of caution rather than excess as more time is needed to buy carefully.
