Principal Phil Frier with Sussex cricketer Jo Gatting

City College forms partnership with Sussex Cricket

City College Brighton and Hove has formed a partnership with the Sussex Cricket Board to provide additional Further Education funding for Level 2 & 3 coaching qualifications.

The partnership ensures funding and quality assurance of the delivery of the qualifications. Phil Frier, Principal of City College, says: "It’s a great opportunity for us at City College to be working with Sussex County Cricket Club. The Club has a great track record over the last few years in working with members of the community right across the County".

"This new partnership project will allow us to reach groups of young people and adults who would not normally come to College for these qualifications. The cricket club is now well renowned for the fantastic work that it does with young people through its community development schemes and the College is keen to extend our partnership in the future in order ‘to reach the parts that other colleges don't reach’."

Andy Hobbs, Head of Recreational Cricket, says: "Sussex Cricket is delighted to go into partnership with City College with our Coach Education Programme. Participation in grass roots cricket continues to rise and training additional coaches to enable clubs to maintain the hundreds of young people wishing to take part is essential for the future of the game. Working with an establishment with such a good reputation as City College will not only greatly add to the quality of the courses but increase the number of new people we can train to become new coaches. We are also sure the relationship will grow in many other areas and very much look forward to a successful, long- term partnership.”
