Slack Space Brighton, a movement to make use of the empty shops and buildings in the city, is holding a practicalities night to discuss topics such as leases, lawyers and landlords – and how to best fill otherwise vacant business properties.
This event, which is free, is taking place at 7pm on Tuesday 12 May 2009 at Coachwerks, which is a creative project space recently converted from a 4,000 sq ft disused bus depot.
Matt Weston, a project designer and entrepreneur who helps start-up businesses, and Charlie Davies, a former features editor for The Face fashion magazine, started Slack Space Brighton to identify suitable unused locations and help creative projects move in. Pictures of over 100 empty shops and 100,000 sq ft of office space, which can be seen on www.flickr.com.
Dan Thompson, from the Empty Shops Network (a UK-wide network of arts organisations, artists and local authorities using empty shops) will be one of the speakers at the event, and further information about his project can be seen at: www.artistsandmakers.com/emptyshops.
The meeting will be held at Coachwerks, 19 Hollingdean Terrace, Brighton and registration for the event is via the Facebook group page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55317964802 or by emailing makeroomnow@gmail.com.
