Hove Library extends its opening hours into Monday afternoons from Monday, April 20.
The move is designed to increase access to library services to all and particularly enable children to attend the library after every school day.
Usual Monday hours will be 1.30-5.30.
The Mayor Cllr Garry Peltzer Dunn will officially open the library for the first time at 1.30 on the day.
There will be cream teas available and a range of activities and entertainment for children to celebrate the occasion.
Cllr David Smith, cabinet member for culture said, “We’re happy to be able to respond to public demand and extend the hours of this much-loved library to Monday afternoons. The longer hours will benefit a large section of the community and be particularly good for children coming along after school.”
The move is part of a plan by the council to extend opening hours of facilities where funds permit. Last April it started opening Brighton’s Jubilee Library on Sundays – the only library in Sussex to do so.
The council also hopes eventually to open Brighton Museum on Sunday mornings, meaning it would be open all day Sunday.
