Pubs say axe the tax
As the budget looms large pubs around the country are gathering to contest the proposed hike in beer tax. More than six pubs are closing every day and the government is about to impose a tax that will be greater than the rate of inflation.
The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) has conducted a survey of MPs and drawn the conclusions that the majority would like to see the chancellor drop the plans to increase beer tax by 2% above inflation.
The survey also found that 61% of MPs would like to see the Government give more support to pubs to strengthen their role within local communities.
The BBPA's campaign is gathering momentum within Parliament, with 202 MPs having already signed a Parliamentary Motion supporting it.
