John Ripley as Max Miller

Brighton comic hero ‘returns’ to city

On Saturday 23rd May 2009, Brighton & Hove will celebrate 65 years since the D-Day landings. The Military Show 2009 is packed with a whole host of entertainment for all the family, and organisers are proud to announce the latest addition to the exciting line up. But who is it?

Brighton born Max Miller was Britain’s top comedian in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Breathing new life into this enduring icon of the British theatre, ‘Miller’ impersonator, John Ripley will bring the ‘Cheeky Chappie’ to a whole new generation.

Taking the stage at the Military Show 2009, the crowds will be wowed with the comedy genius of Brighton’s wartime son. John’s fantastic show has not only earned him a starring role on the Channel 4 programme “Wakey Wakey Campers”, broadcast back in September 2005, but he is also the recipient of an honorary membership of the Max Miller Appreciation Society.

Miller excelled as a stand-up comic playing in large variety theatres where his skill was such that he could hold an audience in the palm of his hand. He also made films, wrote and sang his own songs. To find out more about this much loved Brighton star visit the Max Miller Website or come along to the Military show 2009 and see ‘the man’ in action.

Other treats in store at the show are ‘The Day Of The General Re-enactment Group’, bringing the 40s army to life, toe tapping swing and legendary jive music of the ‘USO Shows’, and the fabulous Clover Sisters, belting out their harmonic wartime songs. With military machines on display, a Collectors Fair, authentic forties food, rides for the kids, marching bands and much, much more, there will certainly be something for all the family.

The Military show is FREE for everyone and runs from 11:30am – 5:30pm on Saturday 23rd May on Hove Lawns (bottom of Grand Avenue). For more information contact Maddy Carr on 01273 735442 or e-mail maddy.carr@btconnect.com or Gavin Stewart on 01273 410524 or e-mail gstewart@brightonbusiness.co.uk

The Military Show 2009 has been organised by the Brighton & Hove Business Forum and sponsored by the Hove Business Partnership.
