One of Brighton's key attractions may be forced to close if creditors can't agree to a deal to ease its debts.
The Komedia theatre in Gardner Street, famous for its comedy nights and avant guard performances, is laying off staff and has called an emergency meeting of creditors.
Komedia is a key venue for touring bands and one of the corner stones of the Fringe Festival in May. Organisers of the Festival have expressed their deep concern and desire to see a resolution to the problem.
At a meeting on 23 March creditors owed a total of £319,944 will be asked to take 33p in the pound over a three year period.
A major creditor is HM Revenue and Customs owed a total of £153,951 in unpaid taxes.
