Recession brings good news for commuters
The recession could have an impact on the pricing of rail fares by bringing them down. Despite rising costs rail operators may find that they have no choice but to cut fares.
If inflation continues to fall, and it is widely predicted that it will, then operators will be forced to keep prices in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI). The RPI is expected to fall significantly this summer. The Government has said that it will allow regulated fares to fall dismissing suggestions that they may permit a price freeze.
