Business Link breeds confidence

Busines Link clients are more optimistic than most. Is this because Business Link services are enabling and so boost confidence or is it simply that more optimistic business are more likely to want to take up the offer of assistance?

It doesn't really matter what the bottom line reason is, this is a good group to be part of if only because success and enthusiasm are contagious.

Recent Business Link research has found that despite the economic downturn, Business Link customers are twice (49%) as likely to expect growth over the next year compared with those who don’t use the service (24%).

The South East Business Monitor tracks 1,200 business owners and senior decision makers in the region. The research raises questions on current issues as well as business performance.

The latest hot topic focused on responses to the economic downturn. It found that South East firms (small and medium-sized) are showing considerable resilience in the face of the economic downturn:

  • Of the 33% that are negatively affected, 85% are taking action to lessen the impact. Mitigating actions include business planning, streamlining processes to cut costs and using or investigating different sales channels.
  • 44% of respondents thought it was too early to predict the effect of the current economic downturn
  • 19% reported no effect and
  • 5% reported a mainly positive effect

A regional advertising and awareness campaign, funded by the regional development agency - SEEDA - is currently promoting the importance of taking external advice to businesses.

The campaign promotes Business Link as the main access point for business support. Select here to find out more and view the adverts .

Business Link in the South East has produced a ‘guide to doing business in tough times’. Businesses can download a copy of the guide by registering at .
