Sussex district councils to employ BID style security guards
Permanent on-street security patrols have been a highly successful part of Unique Brighton - the city centre Business Improvement District (BID) - with 86% of businesses expressing satisfaction with the service. Three district councils intend to copy the idea.
Worthing, Mid Sussex and Horsham District Councils are going to invite tenders for a £900,000 three year contract to supply night time patrols in anti-social behaviour hot spots including car parks, taxi ranks, bus stations, industrial estates and villages.
The service provided by the Brighton BID is dedicated to the nine streets that make up the Business Improvement District area and it has been credited with making a major contribution to the reduction of crime in the area with 60% of BID levy payers having called on the guards for assistance over the past two years.
