Royal Alex site planning rejected
An application to build 150 flats by Taylor Wimpey on the site of the old Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital has been rejected by Brighton & Hove planning committee despite recommendations for approval by planning officers.
Consent was withheld by nine votes against and three abstentions and the committee also declined to give separate permission for demolition because they would like the developer to look into ways to save at least part of the existing building. However, the District Valuer recently expressed the view that it was not commercially viable to keep the building, which has seen considerable alteration since it was built 126 years ago (see earlier stories).
The developer is likely to take the decision to appeal.
