Christmas Sparkles Market returns to Brighton’s Cultural Quarter

The Christmas Sparkles Market, held for the first time in Brighton’s city centre in 2007, is returning to Brighton’s Cultural Quarter at the end of November, offering a Christmas Shopping experience in a traditional market atmosphere. This year will bring the added attraction of children’s competitions, games of skill for the adults and a fabulous raffle with prizes to visit Brighton’s cultural venues.

Sussex producers, local restaurants and bars, and talented craft workers will be selling an array of both traditional and original delicatessen products, toys, home and garden products, clothing and accessories to tempt all shoppers, and there will be hot and cold food, beer, mulled wine and cocktails to provide refreshment when the going gets tough!

If shopping is not your bag, then just come along to enjoy the music, our elf stiltwalkers, balloon twisters, Victorian clad actors (provided by The Pavilion), and a grand finale with The Munchkins and Theatre Royal lights switch on ceremony.

The market will be held in New Road on Saturday 29 November from 11am to 6pm, and will continue on through Jubilee Street and into Jubilee Square where families can enjoy games, and entertainment provided by local musicians and some of the cast from Jack and the Beanstalk ( this year’s panto at The Old Market). There will also be competitions with prizes provided by the SeaLife Centre, and OCO Promotions (Jack the Panto).

The Dome, Theatre Royal, Pavilion, Komedia, Brighton Centre, and SeaLife Centre are all working with the Brighton and Hove Business Forum and New Era Associates to make Brighton "the place" for Christmas shopping in the South East for 2008 and to remind residents and visitors of all the wonderful shows and other venues to visit when a sprinkle of Christmas magic is in the air!

The raffle proceeds will help support the event, and a percentage of the proceeds will go to Sparkles and Surprises - a locally registered children's charity - to provide holidays or days out for complex special needs children (see

Road closure on 29 November for both New Road and Jubilee Street will be from 7am to 8pm, and we would like to thank the local traders for their kind co-operation. Our thanks also go to The Basement for allowing us to use Jubilee Square as a festive family fun venue as part of the celebrations!

Booking forms for stallholders can be downloaded by clicking on the link below (open with Adobe Reader).

If you would like to donate a prize (for the children’s competitions or the raffle), take a stall, or come along and entertain the crowds, we would love to hear from you. Please call: 01273 735442 or e-mail
