Profit through networks

ProfitNet a highly successful “Learning Networks” programme with nearly 500 members from across Sussex, has spaces available on this year's programme in Brighton, Hastings and its Coastal West Sussex groups.

ProfitNet was created and developed by the University of Brighton to get businesses and organisations operating in similar environments to work together. The focus is to support businesses in making the positive changes and developments they need to achieve.

The ProfitNet programme is now entering its fourth successful year, and is proud to have already positively supported over 400 businesses in the South East - working with organisations in fields such as creative industries, start ups, construction and social enterprise.

ProfitNet has proved to be very successful since its inception in 2006 with 91% of those involved saying that ProfitNet has impacted their business with improved business planning and strategy skills.  72% say it has impacted their business with new innovation strategies and 46% have been able to make cost savings in their business.  37% are buying or selling with at least one other ProfitNet member and 21% are collaborating with joint business ventures.

19% have increased their turnover whilst members of ProfitNet and 117 new products and 95 new services were developed by members during 2007.  ProfitNet members participated in the creation of 32 new businesses during the same period.

The programme involves practical learning that is tailored to meet the needs of member companies. Members join a sector-specific group and meet once a month for a 3-hour facilitated session. The groups are member-led, with topics for discussion, external speakers and training being wholly decided by the members.

Stephen Hillier of Hillier Associates said: “I would strongly recommend ProfitNet to any person who wants to acquire skills and knowledge to improve their business.”

ProfitNet is subsidised by the University of Brighton. Monthly meetings are £17 (plus VAT) and an annual commitment is required.  For further details contact the ProfitNet team on 01273 643222 or profitnet@brighton.ac.uk  www.brighton.ac.uk/profitnet
