The World Corporate Games would bring senior and middle management employees and their clients from a host of national and global organisations and institutions to the city and an injection into the local economy of between £2.5 and £3m.
The Games include individual and team sports, social events, a grand parade and a business tourism day and they present the perfect opportunity to showcase the city for inward investment at the same time attracting media interest.
The Games are open to individual and team sports, regardless of age or ability and they are also fully disabled integrated.
The organisers will also be working with the TakePart Festival, School Sports Festival and the City Council’s 2012 coordinator. Discussions are ongoing with St. Dunstan’s and the Sussex Disability Sports Group to ensure the Games promote ‘sport for all’.
Representatives from the UK Corporate Games have already visited the city on a number of occasions to assess the viability of our sports venues, social venues and accommodation which they have agreed would be suitable for Games in 2009.
The organisers are waiting for a decision from SEEDA expected later this months about an £80,000 contribution towards the rights fee.
Given the current economic climate and trading conditions, securing this event for the City would be a positive outcome for the hospitality sector including hotels, restaurants and retail.
Entry Added 05.11.08 - Brighton & Hove confirmed as the venue for The Games to be held between 4th to 7th June 2009.
