Wastewater Treatment Works get the go-ahead
Southern Water’s waste water treatment works at Lower Hoddern Farm near Peacehaven has been granted planning consent by East Sussex County Council.
The £300m scheme had to be returned to the planning committee for modifications in August last year (see earlier story) after the Secretary for State – Hazel Blears - expressed concerns over the visual intrusion of the works on the surrounding site. However the planning inquiry confirmed that Lower Hoddern Farm was the best environmental option which allowed Southern Water to return to planning with a scheme that does not intrude on visual amenity. The Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership supported the planning application (see earlier story).
