Jobs and training for local people will be the priority for a new specialist worker at Brighton & Hove City Council.
The authority is advertising for a Local Labour Scheme Development Officer who will amongst other things ensure local contractors have a chance to get involved in major development sites.
The job is paid at a rate equivalent to £28,000-£30,000 a year.
Cabinet member for employment Cllr Ted Kemble said, “This is all about giving local people more chance of earning a living and finding a home here.
“Many of the largest building schemes will be led by the local authority and involve large sums of private and public money. If that money can be got to local people more wealth will stay in the city. That in turn will help us meet our priorities to grow the city’s economy and increase opportunities for people.”
The successful candidate will work closely with agencies such as Jobcentre Plus, the Learning Skills Council, City College and Business Link.
