Tourists visiting Brighton will now be able to access tourist information via text. The new text service will enable visitors to ask questions about attractions, activities and events in Brighton & Hove.
The council’s tourism and conference arm VisitBrighton has launched Travel Buddy, which sends up-to-the-minute info to mobile phones.
It can answer questions such as the best places for veggie food, clubbing, children or weather updates. Questions can simply be texted to Travel Buddy or users choose from a range of keywords such as ‘must dos’ or 'tours'.
It costs £3 to register with Travel Buddy and answers cost £1 while any subsequent information costs between 25p and £1. The service is provided 24/7 by operators with access to the latest data.
Information is tailored to suit subscribers’ details such as age and location and anyone can register online at www.mobiletravelbuddy.com
Cabinet member for tourism Cllr David Smith said: “It’s another example of us embracing modern technology to promote the city to visitors.”
