The Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership hosted a well-attended consultation dinner last night at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton where participants were made to work for their supper.
Participants were presented with a map of the city and surrounding area and challenged to address a variety of spatial and economic issues and to make links between the issues and the spaces on the map. A panel of nine experts roamed the room to assist the groups with technical questions and information.
The feedback session afterwards demonstrated that the exercise had impressed upon the participants that none of our challenges stand in isolation and any strategy to address them has to make the right links and use our sparse supply of land wisely.
Three sets of consultants were also present for the exercise, Step Ahead Research, commissioned by the Economic Partnership to assist with the review the economic strategy for Brighton & Hove, Centre for Cities, commissioned jointly by the local authority and the Economic Partnership to produce research comparing Brighton & Hove with six other towns of similar profile and GVA Grimley commissioned by the local authority to produce a business retention and inward investment strategy for the city.
The table discussions will be collated and published on this website shortly.
