Streamlining at George could be good for the environment but bad for staff
George at Asda is planning to streamline its warehousing facilities. The aim is to reduce the number of warehouses from four to three and to allocate an area of the country to each of the remaining three rather than distribute different merchandise from each warehouse.
The move should be more environmentally sound as currently each warehouse stocks different merchandise lines and all distribute nationally across the whole country. The new operation will see a warehouse for the north another for the midlands and a third for the south.
The move however could affect up to 450 jobs as the workload will be reduced.
